"He has lied to you, and he has used you, when are you going to accept that?" MGM+ has debuted the full official trailer for the British spy series titled A Spy Among Friends, arriving for streaming in March. The service formerly known as Epix has re-branded as MGM+, with a big line-up set to launch this spring. "The epic true story of Kim Philby, the Cold War's most infamous spy, from the 'master storyteller' and author of Prisoners of the Castle." It's an adaptation of the book of the same name. The UK mini-series stars the very talented actors Guy Pearce and Damian Lewis as Nicholas Elliott and Kim Philby, real-life 1960s British spies who, despite their opposing allegiances, developed a life-long friendship. It reminds me of the other British spy film The Courier (aka Ironbark) from a few years ago - also about two spies who were friends. This series features Anna Maxwell Martin, Adrian Edmondson, Stephen Kunken, Nicholas Rowe, and Anastasia Hille. Thanks to the excellent cast, this looks like a seriously engaging watch. Check it out.

From there on out begins his life as a double agent, along with four friends of his, all of them later dubbed as the Cambridge Five (Guy Burgess, Donald MacLean, Anthony Blunt, John Cairncross and Philby). Their collective saga would last for over thirty years and brought irreparable harm to both British and American secret services.
All countries, societies and friendships run on code and some of us are more adept at reading and sending these codes than others. The work of the spy is to read and relay these codes to the enemy to the detriment of said countries, societies and friendships.
The latest spy drama on British television revisits an old classic, the "Cambridge Five," a group of friends who were all educated at Cambridge and came to hold positions of power. All of whom were/became KGB (foreign intelligence and domestic security agency of the Soviet Union) agents until the 1950s. Several books, films and series have already been made about these men. This latest offering focuses on the friendship between one of them, Kim Philby, and an unsuspecting member of the intelligence services, Nicholas Elliott.
Telling the true story of Kim Philby and Nicholas Elliott, A Spy Among Friends tells the intricate and complex path that led to the discovery of a network of Soviet spies operating within the British secret intelligence agency. Based on the acclaimed book by Ben MacIntyre, A Spy Among Friends dramatizes how Elliott and Philby, long-time friends and colleagues, played a cat-and-mouse game with each other that eventually led to one of the most notorious reveals of the Cold War. Spread over six episodes, A Spy Among Friends is a solid series for fans of brilliant acting, especially from Damian Lewis, Guy Pearce, and Anna Maxwell Martin. 041b061a72
